Easthampton man charged with attempted rape

EASTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -

An Easthampton man is facing rape charges after allegedly trying to assault a woman on Nipfer Avenue Monday night.

Police say William Bower grabbed the woman by her neck and suggested he was going to assault and kill her.

The woman bit her attacker's hand to get free.

She got to a phone and called 911.

The woman has a possible broken nose and other minor injuries.

Police say Bower is being held for psychological evaluation.
