Westfield State University will get $500,000 from the state to help plan a new science building on the school's campus.
The money comes from Gov. Deval Patrick's plan to give nearly $2 billion in state bonds for improvement projects across Massachusetts.
The money will be used to research how to best spend a previously-announced $33 million grant for the new science building. The money may also be used to look at improvement projects for other buildings on the Westfield State campus.
