Police were called to the scene of a serious accident involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on Sunday evening at approximately 6:42 p.m.
Sgt. Daniel Valadas of the Ludlow Police Department told CBS 3 the incident occurred near the intersection of West Avenue and Stebbins Street.
When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old male lying in the road. Police said he was conscious but not alert.
The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center and was last reported to be in critical condition.
The operator of the vehicle, a 57-year-old man, was not injured. His vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction Unit.
