Arson and bomb squad investigators are searching for a man accused of attempted arson.
The incident happened around 8:15 a.m. Saturday morning inside the second-floor apartment at 140 White St.
Dennis Leger, aide to Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told CBS 3 a man barricaded himself and a woman inside a room.
After blocking the door with a couch, the man lit clothes and books on fire, then jumped out the window.
The woman screamed for help.
Other women in the apartment were able to push open the door and throw the burning items out the window.
Leger said investigators have an idea who the male suspect is, but they are not releasing any information at this time.
