A local soldier was recognized Wednesday for his work in the U.S. military.
Family and friends of Sgt. Elisaul Verilla joined state officials at the Student Press in downtown Springfield to recognize him for serving in Afghanistan.
Verilla is a member of the 82nd Airborne division.
He just returned from his second tour.
Rep. Cheryl Coakley-Rivera gave him a proclamation from the state.
Verilla says he is surprised but grateful for the recognition.
