Springfield police arrest man for fleeing in stolen vehicle

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Springfield police have arrested Joseph Watkins for allegedly fleeing from police in a stolen van.

Officers had been looking for the van out of Holyoke when they saw it in Mason Square.

Watkins allegedly took off and police chased him in the car until he ditched the van and ran into a backyard.

Watkins faces a number of charges, including failure to stop for police.

Police tell CBS 3 a passenger threw a handgun out the window.

That passenger fled from police.
