Saturday, cities and towns across Western Mass observed National Prescription Take Back Day.
Smith Vocational High School was one of the many drop-off points available in Hampshire County.
Officials from the Northwestern District Attorney's Office, the Hampshire County Sheriff's Office, and Northampton Police all took part in the effort.
The DA's office said that every day 2,500 teenagers use prescription drugs to get high for the first time.
So, Take Back Day allowed for proper disposal of old medication.
Saturday was the fifth National Prescription Take Back Day.
Officials hope for a sixth, but no date has been set yet.
Also, at the Northampton location people had the chance to drop off used equipment like crutches and wheelchairs.
They were donated to the Stavros Center for Independent Living as part of its Home Sweet Home program.
