Student-athletes in Westfield had the chance to make sure they were heart-healthy on Saturday.
The Kevin J. Major Foundation teamed up with the Chad Foundation for a free heart screening at St. Mary High School.
Over 100 athletes signed up for the event, which included an echo-cardiogram and an EKG.
Cholesterol, glucose levels, and body mass index were also checked.
Susan Canning organized the event in honor of her son Kevin Major, who died from a heart issue that could have been detected.
"Some of the symptoms are shortness of breath and fatigue," said Canning. "What teenager does not complain about either one of those? Offering EKG's and echo-cardiograms is an opportunity for our local pediatric cardiologist to take a look at these exams and see if they are showing any abnormalities."
Canning said they hope to make this an annual event.
If the donations add up, they would be willing to do the screenings twice a year.
There is already a waiting list for the next event.
