(CNN) -- Vice President Joe Biden's plans to campaign in Tampa, Florida, on Monday alongside the Republican National Convention have been canceled, his campaign said Friday, as the city braces for a tropical storm that could impact the convention there.

"This change in schedule is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm, as well as those attending the activities in Tampa," the Obama-Biden campaign said in a statement.

The campaign did not cancel Tuesday events in Orlando and St. Augustine.

Tropical Storm Isaac was approximately 90 miles south-southeast of the capital of Haiti on Friday evening, and the latest forecasts show it staying west of Tampa and not reaching hurricane strength until Monday.

Convention officials, as well as Florida's governor and Tampa's mayor, said the convention and host city were prepared for the storm.

Biden's Tampa appearance was to be part of a Democratic effort to "bracket" the GOP convention.
