State health officials have confirmed the first case of West Nile virus in western Massachusetts this year. A woman from Berkshire County in her 70s has tested positive for it.
The woman currently in the hospital, but is expected to be released soon.
This is the first case of the mosquito-borne illness here in western Massachusetts. Health officials have raised the threat level to "high" in Pittsfield and "moderate" for the neighboring towns.
