(RNN) - Ron Palillo, who played Horshack on the '70s sit-com Welcome Back, Kotter is dead at 63, according to TMZ.

Palillo's character was known for the way he caught Mr. Kotter's attention in class with his, "Oh! Oh! Oh! Mr. Kotter!" on the show that ran from 1975 to 1979.

After the show was canceled, Palillo appeared at as a single-episode guest star on television shows throughout the 1980s and 1990s, such as Cagney & Lacey, and did voice work in cartoons.

Born in Connecticut on April 2, 1949, Palilllo majored in drama at the University of Connecticut at Storrs where he often appeared in Shakespearean plays.

In 2002, he received some notoriety for losing to Dustin Diamond, who played Screech in Saved by the Bell, on the show Celebrity Boxing 2.

John Travolta also appeared on Welcome Back, Kotter as Vinnie Barbarino.

Robert Hegyes, who played Juan Epstein on the show, died earlier this year on Jan. 26, 2012.
