"Without further ado, I'd like to introduce to you the new head coach of the Springfield Armor, Bob MacKinnon," says Armor General Manager Milton Lee.
The Springfield Armor says they're confident they've found the right guy to lead the team moving forward.
"As I got to know him more, I felt almost this kindred spirit. He's a real basketball junkie," Lee says.
Bob MacKinnon Jr. has been coaching basketball for more than 25 years, including two seasons in the D-League. His team won the D-League title in 2009.
"I've shown that I can develop players and win, and I think you can do both. I think I've proven myself as a teacher of the game and someone that can identify players," says Armor head coach Bob MacKinnon, Jr.
He won't have to identify players, though. The New Jersey Nets of the NBA are now in charge of the Armor's basketball decisions, including this hire. Nets head coach Avery Johnson gave his endorsement.
"As soon as the interview ended, he called me up and said, 'best one, best one yet. I really like that guy'," Lee says.
MacKinnon's teams are known for being up-tempo and high-scoring. Yet he says it's all about defense.
"My teams have led the D-League in scoring and hold every record in the D-League scoring book, but what we do practice-wise is 70-80 percent defense," MacKinnon says.
"As we move on to a new era, I just want to leave the Dee Brown era saying, it's a new start. Sometimes it's good to start again," says Armor owner Michael Savit.
