SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A home invasion in Springfield's Liberty Heights neighborhood has residents shocked and concerned for their safety.

A little before 7 a.m. this morning, police responded at 1055 Liberty St. to a report of a home invasion. Police say the victim was pistol whipped and suffered a 2 inch cut on his forehead.

Earlier that morning, police say one of the residents was approached in the driveway of his home by two Hispanic males wearing all black masks and armed with handguns. The men forced their way into the house, where police say they were looking for a safe.

"Our neighbor from over there came running around knocking on everybody door asking for help, help, help somebody was going to shoot his brother, somebody broke into his house and had his brother at gun point, so I ran out I gave her the phone to call 911," said Eddie Carmen, of Springfield.

The suspects fled the scene in the victim's Honda CR-V. Minutes later, the car was found abandoned, just a few blocks from the Liberty Street home where it was stolen.

At this point, police are not exactly sure what was stolen from the home and they are investigating the home invasion.
