BOSTON (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 8-3 last night. Josh Hamilton broke out of a slump with two hits and three RBIs, and Howie Kendrick drove in two runs for the Angels. David Ortiz hit his 30th homer in the third for the Red Sox, but Clay Buchholz got tagged with a five-run fifth.

BOSTON (AP) - Los Angeles Angels right-hander Garrett Richards was taken off the field on a stretcher with an apparent leg injury in last night's game at Boston. Richards was hurt in the second inning last night while running to cover first base on a potential double-play grounder by Boston's Brock Holt. Richards' right leg buckled on the dirt near the base. Several minutes later he was wheeled off while he raised his right arm to the crowd.

BOSTON (AP) - Former major league pitcher Curt Schilling says he's battling mouth cancer and blames 30 years of chewing tobacco. Schilling discussed details of his cancer on WEEI-FM in Boston yesterday. He announced he had cancer in February, but had not disclosed what kind.

NEW YORK (AP) - Hobey Baker Award finalist Kevin Hayes has agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the New York Rangers. The 22-year-old forward had 27 goals and 38 assists this past season with Boston College, making him a finalist for the Hobey Baker that's awarded to the top player in collegiate hockey.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - Third-seeded Eugenie Bouchard of Canada and four-time champion Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark both suffered straight-set upsets yesterday in the second round of the Connecticut Open. Bouchard, who played with her left thigh wrapped, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Australian Samantha Stosur. Wozniacki, the fourth seed, was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by Camila Giorgi of Italy.

STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The Connecticut men's basketball team has announced agreements to play Ohio State and Arizona in a pair of home-and-home series. The defending champion Huskies remain in a relatively weak American Athletic Conference after the split of the Big East and the departure of Louisville for the ACC.

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (AP) - A youth baseball coach from Rhode Island who has become an Internet sensation for the inspiring speech he made after his team was eliminated from the Little League World Series says the talk was spontaneous and from the heart. Players on David Belisle's team from Cumberland were crying after Monday night's 8-7 loss to Chicago in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, when he kneeled down and told them they should be proud.
