MONTREAL (AP) - The Bruins head north tonight to renew their rivalry with Montreal. The Atlantic Division-leading Bruins have won six straight, but they're looking to avoid a sixth straight loss to Montreal. Boston has outshot its last four opponents 156-82 as it continues to put the pressure on Pittsburgh for the Number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
BOSTON (AP) - The Celtics look to snap a four-game winning streak by the visiting Knicks tonight at TD Garden. Boston is looking to rebound after a 94-83 loss at Indiana. Jared Sullinger scored 17 points and Kris Humphries added 15 for Boston, which shot 35.2 percent while letting Indiana convert 54.8 percent of its attempts.
BOSTON (AP) - Carmelo Anthony says he has heard that 11-time NBA champion coach Phil Jackson will be "coming on board" in a leadership capacity with the Knicks, though cautioned that nothing is yet official. Anthony made the comments today to reporters in Boston, where the Knicks are playing the Celtics.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - The Broncos have reached a deal on a six-year contract with former Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib. Talib was a shutdown corner for New England in 2013. He hurt his knee early in the AFC Championship against Denver when he was bumped by Wes Welker on a crossing route.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) - ESPN is reporting free agent wide receiver Brandon LaFell is visiting New England today. LaFell had 49 catches for 627 yards and five touchdowns. Also today, the Patriots officially announced the re-signing of tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (hoo-MAH'-nuh-wah-noo-ee). Hoomanawanui has spent the past two seasons with New England after spending his first two in St. Louis.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - The Red Sox have a break today in their spring training schedule. Boston knocked off the Orioles 6-5 yesterday. Red Sox pitcher John Lackey notched two strikeouts and gave up three runs on four hits in 2-plus innings of work during his first start of the spring.
BOSTON (AP) - Liverpool will play Roma in a preseason exhibition game at Fenway Park on July 23rd, a rematch of their 2012 meeting at the Boston ballpark. Liverpool was bought in 2010 by the parent company of the Boston Red Sox, now known as Fenway Sports Group. A group of four Boston executives closed a deal for Roma the following year.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The inaugural American Athletic Conference gets under way tonight in Memphis. Number 21 UConn has earned a first-round bye and will face Number 19 Memphis tomorrow. The Huskies swept Memphis in the regular season.
