REHOBOTH, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a Rehoboth mother has
been charged with injuring her 2-year-old son.

The Bristol district attorney's office says 39-year-old Kim Peno
is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court on
a charge of assault and battery of a child causing substantial
injury.

Police say the child's father went to the Seekonk public safety
building just after midnight Thursday seeking assistance for the
boy. The toddler was treated at the scene and then taken to Hasbro
Children's Hospital in Providence where he is in critical
condition.

Seekonk police informed police in Rehoboth, where the family
lives.

It was not immediately clear if Peno had a lawyer.
