BOSTON (AP) - The rain has ended but flood warnings remain in
effect for rivers in Massachusetts, where countless homeowners are
pumping out and communities are tallying up the damage from a
three-day deluge.

Forecasters warned that while many rivers have crested and
started to recede, flooding could continue through at least
Wednesday.

In Winchester, one of the state's hardest-hit towns, many
streets remained closed as did public schools for a second day.
Town Manager Melvin Kleckner said hundreds of homes were flooded
and utilities such as electricity and natural gas cut off.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said state
officials had begun preliminary damage estimates in advance of a
likely request for federal disaster assistance. Storm victims were
urged to take photos and document any property damage.
