LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - Lowell police have cited a 17-year-old girl
with fleeing the scene of an accident that left a 12-year-old boy
seriously injured when he was struck by a car.

Police said Friday that Michelle P. Medeiros of Methuen is
accused of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. The
charge is a misdemeanor, meaning she will be summoned to court at a
later date.

A message left at her home was not immediately returned and it
could not immediately be determined if she has an attorney.

Investigators say Kelvin Savanhmixay (sah-vahn-MIX'-ee) was
thrown about 20 feet when he was hit in a crosswalk Wednesday
afternoon. Witnesses say two cars that appeared to be drag racing
ran a red light before one struck the boy.

He is in fair condition at Children's Hospital Boston with
internal and head injuries.
