ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - A veteran Adams police officer accused of
viewing child pornography on a computer in the evidence room at the
police station has resigned.

The North Adams Transcript reports Friday that Alan Vigiard
(VIH'-zhee-ard) plans to pursue retirement benefits after pleading
not guilty at his arraignment at Northern Berkshire District Court
to charges of possession of child pornography.

Vigiard was arrested after state police determined that time
stamps reporting access to the pornographic files matched the times
the 45-year-old officer had been logged into the system. He was
just one of four officers with access to the evidence room.

Vigiard was placed on paid administrative leave.

The town has re-hired an officer who was laid off during budget
cuts.

Vigiard's home number is unlisted and it could not immediately
be determined if he has a lawyer.
