LEVERETT, Mass. (AP) - A man struck and killed by a train in
western Massachusetts has been identified as a University of
Massachusetts student from France.

A university spokesman says 19-year-old Peter Boutarel was a
sophomore political science and philosophy major from Dax, France,
who lived on campus.

Amtrak officials said Boutarel was struck by its Vermonter train
at about 1:20 p.m. on Thursday while trespassing on the tracks in
Leverett.

There were no injuries to any of the 63 passengers on the
southbound train, which was traveling from St. Albans, Vt., to
Washington, D.C.

The incident remains under investigation and an autopsy is
scheduled.
