Suicidal patient in Berkshires flees ambulance, missing

By CBS 3 Springfield News

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (AP) - A 21-year-old man being transported to
a hospital for mental health treatment fled from the ambulance and
has been missing for days in the Berkshires.

Authorities say Gregory Hillman, whose family is from Darien,
Conn., was being taken from a hospital in Pittsfield to a more
secure facility in North Adams on Monday. When the ambulance
arrived at the North Adams hospital, Hillman ran away.

Police have been searching the area and issued a regional
missing person alert. Hillman is 5-foot-10, slim and last was
wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and tan pants.

A family home in nearby North Pownal, Vt., was checked but
Hillman was not there.

Hillman's father, Peter, says his son is a danger only to
himself. He left a note saying he planned to drown himself in the
Atlantic.
