SHIRLEY, Mass. (AP) - The top administrator at a maximum
security prison in Massachusetts was struck by an inmate during a
routine meeting with prisoners.

A spokeswoman for the state Department of Correction says
Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center Superintendent Thomas Dickhaut
was struck above the eye by the inmate early Thursday afternoon.

Dickhaut was in a general population housing unit for a daily
staff availability period. The meetings give inmates the
opportunity to speak with senior staff.

The inmate, whose name was not released, was restrained by
staff. Dickhaut did not require stitches and went back to work.

The incident remains under investigation.
