New Springfield D-League teams asks fans to choose name

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield's new NBA Development League team is turning to its fans to select a nickname.
Fans can vote for a team nickname in an online poll starting Monday through May 1.

Officials say the four choices -- Armor, Colonials, Founders and Spirit -- all reflect the history of the city and region. Armor, refers to the city's armory, while Founders acknowledges the city as the birthplace of basketball.

Fans can also suggest their own name.

The D-League serves as a feeder to the NBA. The Springfield team, which does not yet have a big league affiliate, starts play next season.

I wanted to suggest a name if possible "The Pioneers" ...ever since i watched the news , that we were getting the D-League , I thought of that name being suiting for our city's history and area . Thank you
