Mass. Gov. to ask health insurers to cut costs

By CBS 3 Springfield News

BOSTON (AP) - Gov. Deval Patrick says he's planning to meet with
the state's top insurers and health care providers as early as this
week to press them to rein in costs.

Patrick emerged from a meeting with top advisers Monday and said
he's committed to the state's landmark health care law despite the
economic tough times - but said spiraling health costs threaten the
success of the initiative.

Patrick said the state has to look for different ways to save
money - like reimbursing health care providers based on whether
patients get well, not how many medical tests are ordered.

In August, Patrick signed into law a bill with other
cost-controls, including requiring hospitals and doctors to adopt a
statewide electronic records-keeping system by 2015.
