Archdiocese: MA priest accusations unsubstantiated

By CBS 3 Springfield News

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Archdiocese has announced that it found
two allegations of child sex abuse against a former Wellesley
priest to be unsubstantiated.

The decision, announced Friday, comes nearly seven years after
the Rev. James F. Power, was placed on administrative leave.

The archdiocese said the 78-year-old Power has been assigned the
status of "senior priest," which allows him to give sacramental
celebrations only to family members without permission.

Power was serving as temporary parochial vicar at St. James the
Great Parish in Wellesley when he was placed on leave in February
2002 after a review found he'd been accused of abuse in 1993.
Another allegation was reported in October 2002.

A spokeswoman for the archdiocese said Power would not comment
on the archdiocese's announcement.
