Woman sentenced for switching vitamins with candy

By CBS 3 Springfield News

BOSTON (AP) - A Woburn woman who admitted she switched
Flintstones vitamins with candy in stores has been sentenced to two
years of probation.

Denise Shannon will spend the first six months of her sentence
in home confinement, and was also ordered in federal court on
Wednesday to pay a $2,500 fine and $4,500 in restitution.

The 38-year-old Shannon told federal investigators she
substituted the chewable vitamins with red-hot candy, jelly beans,
M&Ms and gumballs eight to 10 times in 2004 and 2005 at various
stores in the Woburn area.

According to a plea agreement, she did it because she felt
"violated" after she bought Flintstones vitamins that were
tampered with in 2004.

No children were harmed, but one child was taken to the hospital
as a precaution.
