Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Electrocution Death

By CBS 3 Springfield News

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. (AP) - A Hardwick woman has pleaded not
guilty to motor vehicle homicide in connection with a crash that
led to the electrocution death of her passenger.

Amanda King was released on personal recognizance at her
arraignment Wednesday in Eastern Hampshire District Court, ordered
not to drive and to remain drug and alcohol free.

Authorities say the 20-year-old King was driving a car that
struck a utility pole in Ware on June 23. The impact of the crash
broke a glass insulator, causing voltage to pass down the pole to
the wet pavement below.

Officials say 19-year-old Vanessa Kotowski was apparently
electrocuted when she stepped out of the car and onto the charged
ground.

King previously pleaded not guilty to drunken driving charges.
