Handicapped Man Allowed To Build New Home

Handicapped Man Allowed To Build New Home

By CBS 3 Springfield News

We have a follow up on the story of Dean Hatch, a Granby truck driver left paralyzed after an accident in 2007.

Hatch is now wheelchair bound and in need of a handicapped accessible house.

But his property is zoned in such a way that would prevent him from building a new house where his existing one stands.

So Hatch filed a claim with thee Americans With Disabilities Act. He just found out that he will be allowed to build.

"We were really psyched we've spend a long time in waiting, the last 7 and a half months we spent arguing with the town over this and it's something that according to state law it's legal to do and we've had the right to do it all along," said Hatch.

Dean says he's still trying to raise funds to help build his new home.
