Mosquitoes bites are never fun. But they can be more than just annoying. One of the viruses you can get is Eastern Equine Encephalitis. It's rare in humans but it can be deadly.

In Thursday's HouseCalls, Dr. Mireye Wessolossky, an attending physician in Infectious Diseases at UMass Memorial Medical Center joined us live via Skype.

Dr. Wessolossky said with all the rain we've had in March and April there is an increased risk for EEE. The symptoms are similar to flu: fever, vomiting, and sensitivity to light. If you become confused you should get to the doctor right away.

Dr. Wessolossky said it's best to avoid being outdoors during dawn and dusk. Often more mosquitoes are out during that time. Also, wear long sleeves, pants and sock. Put bug spray on your clothes and any exposed areas.

If you have a question about EEE or another medical issue, email us at housecalls@cbs3springfield.com
