The struggle to control substance abuse can tear a family apart. It also effects millions of people and it's growing in Western Mass.

Joyce Milton, a mental health and substance abuse therapist at Wing Memorial Hospital's Griswold Behavioral Health Center, joined us live via Skype for HouseCalls on Tuesday.

Milton said there has been an increase in substance abuse in the Pioneer Valley, especially in adolescents. She said the Griswold Center has a 5 week program that helps people kick their habits. She also said that often those who are addicted to one type of substance and recover, often turns to other substances.
