Springfield Police have identified the victim of a Saturday night murder. 17 year old Justin Gordon of Wilmont Street was gunned down in front of a James Street home.

The blood is still fresh on the stoop as Dr. Brian Rachmaciej knocks at the victim's door, offering words of support.

"We wanted to support the family and make sure if there's anything we could do as a school, we could do that," Dr. Rachmaciej says.

17 year old Justin Gordon was gunned down on Saturday night in what police are calling a gang related shooting.

"This is not ok and our children are affected by the violence daily," Rachmaciej says.

Dr. Rachmaciej is a counselor at Milton Bradley School. And once he heard 55 James Street was the crime scene, an alarm went off.

"Checking again, making a home visit because the address was familiar to me," he says.

Thankfully, his student wasn't directly touched by the murder. But for the dozens of kids who walk this Six Corners neighborhood, violence and crime is a part of everyday life. That means even though it's Sunday, Dr. Rachmaciej is always on call.

"Unfortunately many of our students are affected by violence and we want to make sure during a traumatic time that they are supported," he says.

While he finished the his house call, another one of his students is facing the facts in her home.

"She's gotta go out there and deal with this on a daily basis so this is really close to home," says Rafael Nunez, as he explains the events to his daughter at the coffee table.

Zaidy Brianna is a 3rd grader at Milton Bradley. Her situation is unique, because other 8 year olds don't need to worry about neighborhood violence. Her dad says in Springfield, you do.

"She's very clean minded, so it's hard to see that this is the reality out there. That something this crazy could happen in a split second," he says.
