This holiday season the Southampton Police Department will conduct a food drive for the first time. Any non-perishable food can be delivered directly to the police station. All items will be donated to the Northampton Survival Center after the food drive concludes on Dec. 22.

The idea started when one of their officers saw a 6-year-old child become overwhelmed by seeing other children donating at a local food bank.

"They went down there, the 6 year old saw other children waiting in line with their families and realized on his own when he got into the car saying that an ATV is kind of a big thing to ask for Christmas," said Lt. Michael Goyette. "After seeing what I just saw, we should donate more food."

According to Goyette, if this food drive succeeds, the Southampton police station may become a permanent food drop-off site.
