The group SNAP, Survivors of those Abused by Priests are protesting a Maryland Judge's sentencing of Aaron Cote.
Cote was charged with molesting a western mass boy in Maryland in 2001 and 2002.
Last week he was given 10 years probation, but no jail time.

SNAP Spokesperson Bill Nash says, "We're very concerned about that, he's a very dangerous man."

Nash says the Judge's sentence is reckless, especially since Cote is a Chicopee native.
He served at Saint Mary's in Westfield and Saint Theresa's in South Hadley.
The group fears he'll return to Western Mass.
So, they're asking Springfield Bishop Timothy McDonnell to reach out to anyone else locally who may have been abused by cote.
But the Diocese says it's already done that, and what's more, since cote was a Dominican priest, he was never employed by the diocese.

Spokesperson for the Springfield Diocese Mark Dupont says, "Aaron Cote was never affiliated with the Springfield Diocese. He was a priest in the Dominican order and his only record of ever serving in the Diocese of Springfield was in a brief period in the 1990's when he was home to care for his elderly parents. He did work at two of our parishes for a brief time in 1996."

Members of SNAP say the Bishop has stepped up to the plate in the past and had Cote de-frocked this past spring.
They're hoping for more of that in the future.
But the Diocese says its done everything it can.

DuPont says, "It's hard to recognize whether they want more victims or want to identify more victims. We think if there are victims out there at this point just based on SNAP's work Aaron Cote's name is well known and those victims I think would step forward if they have a mind to do so."

Every catholic org. has to be allowed by the bishop to be in his diocese !! So, it is time for the diocese to do what SNAP does.. reach out to other victims of Cote !
