A burglary suspect is facing several charges after he allegedly stabbed a Springfield police officer with a chisel. It happened early this morning inside the Knox Food Market on Knox Street.
According to police, 21 year old Bernardo Reyes Valesquez broke into the market and then hid inside the ceiling panels of the store when officers arrived on the scene. Three police officers were able to get him out, but that's when Valesquez allegedly stabbed one cop in the chest with a chisel. Luckily, the officer was wearing a bullet proof vest and was not injured. Valesquez is facing several charges including assault and battery on a police officer.
