The fight continues to keep the outpatient services at Holyoke's soldiers home open. The facility is set to close Tuesday, but local veterans say the fight isn't over, despite the fact the governor overruled local legislators, and failed to restore funding.

The governor talks about duplication of efforts and services not duplicated them, eliminating them. Daniel Harmre calls himself one of the lucky ones. Come Tuesday, December 1st, more than 2-thousand vets who depend on the outpatient services at Holyoke's Soldier's home wont be as lucky. "Some of these guys don't have any insurance 10 percent don't have it what so ever." That's why Hamre has become the voice for our veterans. "I'm commander American legion have to fight for all the veterans guys need someone to speak up for them." This Monday, the day before the outpatient doors are supposed to close, the American legion along with the VFW are planning protest the governor's latest move.
Last week Governor Patrick vetoed more than 500-thousand dollars in proposed funding by legislators. "It's got to pay off pays off we know we are trying we wont give up, not sure what governor will do, last day before the closing takes places." It's a last ditch effort to keep the services open and available to thousands of veterans. Hamre says he and others aren't ready or willing to back down. "Next step would ask the legislator to put it back in another budget and put it back in governor court again, back from veterans may affect how i vote."
