The life of a local war hero will be celebrated this weekend while helping a great cause dear to his heart.

Started by a group of veterans, the Wounded Warrior Project helps severely wounded soldiers adjust to life back home. It helps soldiers like Sgt. Mark Ecker of East Longmeadow who lost both of his feet in Iraq.

"The Wounded Warrior Project were the first people there to help him out, and that meant a lot," Ecker's father, Mark Ecker Sr said.

Ecker worked closely with the Wounded Warrior Project up until his untimely death in a car accident in July. He became an inspiration to many, like Raymond Guillemette of Agawam.

"When I met the Ecker family and met Mark I really walked away thinking I was the one benefiting," Guillemette said.

Guillemette, who also is an amputee, lost his leg in a motorcycle accident eight years ago. He's an Elvis impersonator and decided to celebrate Mark's life and help raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project with a holiday fundraiser.

This Sunday at the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee, Guillemette will kick off his "A Ray of Elvis Holiday Homecoming" concert. The goal is to help other soldiers.

Tickets are on sale now at the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee. The event kicks off Nov. 29 at 4 p.m.
