Springfield's new NBA developmental league team played its first game last night. It took on the Maine Red Claws, which is another brand new team, at the Augusta Civic Center.

Springfield came out on top 86-78. However, since this is a preseason game, it will not count for the record books.

More than 3,000 new fans came out to watch, and they got quite a show from the leading scorers Julian Allen and Perrin Johnson. Both Allen and Johnson scored 12 points. Jameson Curry and Craig Austrie scored 10 points each.

Springfield opens its season at home Friday night against the Iowa Energy. The Red Claws open on the road and go up against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
