Two people are forced from their homes when their house catches on fire in Hampden County.

The home at 205 Chapin Street in Hampden is damaged after a fire in the kitchen that started around 6:30 Friday evening.

The fire chief says a grease fire started on the stove but spread to the whole kitchen. When they arrived the kitchen was engulfed in flames. Luckily, everyone got out.

Michael Gorski, Hampden Fire Chief says, "Two people were able to escape and we're looking at $50,000 in damage."

The fire chief says it took about 25 minutes to knock-down the blaze. The kitchen was gutted and there is smoke damage throughout the home. The family had to find another place to stay on Friday night.
