A man charged in the hit and run death of a six year old boy was in court on Friday.

In September, 6 year old Kyier Douchette was crossing the street in Holyoke when he was hit by a car and killed.

On Friday, the man accused of that crime, Angel Ortiz, was arraigned on charges of vehicular homicide and driving while drunk. The judge set bail for Ortiz at $25,000 cash. Ortiz pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution argued for a higher bail to be set citing evidence such as a 0.11 blood alcohol content and open containers in the car Ortiz was driving at the time of the accident. A makeshift memorial still remains at the scene where Douchette was killed in Holyoke.
