The Bay State's unemployment rate dropped for the first time since June 2007. It comes just a month after the rate hit its highest point since 1976.

Lloyd Martin is among the many people scrambling to find work in this rocky economy. After almost 30 years working in communications, Lloyd is thinking about changing his career altogether.

He wants to go Green.

"I've been working via the Internet for a job search. The biggest help I have found is coming here to Futureworks," Martin said.

Futureworks is a one-stop career center based out Springfield. The facility provides the unemployed with a wide range of services and resources to get back on their feet.

Officials said they too are noticing a difference when it comes to helping finding people jobs. "People are getting jobs," said Rexene Pacard, executive director of Futureworks.

They said the sudden upswing of work could be seasonal hiring. In the months of November and December companies are looking for extra help.

Futureworks officials said people need to start somewhere, even if it is not the job of their dreams.

"I think in this economy there's so much competition. The big thing to do is take whatever you can get and focus on the perfect match later," Pacard said.

That is exactly what Martin plans to do. He will find work now and focus on his long term career later.

"It's nice to see at least something is going on in the economy and it should help someone find a job," Martin said.
