Hundreds of children in Western Mass got the H1N1 vaccine. The first flu clinic in our area was in Westfield and it was packed with some parents waiting more than an hour.

The lines were extending out and around Westfield South Middle School. Parents with their children outside in the cold.

Julie Decoteau, a parent, says "We only waited 55 minutes. So, it wasn't too bad of a time wait."

All for one of 1200 H1N1 shots. Westfield is one of the only communities with the vaccines. Parents were clamoring to get them for their children. But the shots were only for K-5 graders.

Julie Decoteau says, "The vaccine is not available in the doctor's offices so the school had sent home a notice to the parents saying to come down and get the vaccine shots. So, we came down to stand in line so the kids could get them."

By 3 pm, the line was out the door and into a neighboring park 300 families deep. The Decoteaus one of the hundreds braving the crowd for a few seconds of prevention.

Jackie Decoteau, "It didn't hurt really. It was just a pinch."

Westfield residents thankful their city has the doses and are hoping more will catch up.

Julie Decoteau says, "I'm hoping the other communities and towns. Can get the vaccinations. So all the kids can turn around and be safe."

The students will have to return for another shot in about 28 days for a second vaccine.
