Former Agawam Mayor Richard Cohen has been elected again as he handily defeats preliminary winner Derek Benton.

Cohen defeated Benton by roughly 1,200 votes. It was a nasty campaign that included Benton's alleged criminal past being brought to light. The election was capped off with a heated debate that drew the attention of Western Mass.

Two other write-in candidates, Paul Cavallo and Ceclia Calabrese took roughly 25% of the vote. Benton says he attributes those votes to his loss.

Cohen says he will go to city hall Wednesday to start his transition into office.
