A new Springfield business is asking for food donations to benefit the Open Pantry. As part of the grand opening at Jim's Auto Trim Specialists on State Street in Springfield, anyone who donates food will receive a gift certificate from the new business.

Owner Jim Kahle has been a part of the Open Pantry program for years, and said now with his own business he can give neighbors their chance to give back to the community.

"Now that the weather is getting colder, hunger becomes a greater issue," Kahle said. "This is a grand opening special now, but we will have it ongoing anytime anyone wants to stop with anything at all. We have a permanent sign here on the wall."

About 400 pounds of food have been delivered as of Monday, but Kahle believes that total can reach five to six hundred by the end of the week.
