Bishop McDonnell granted The Immaculate Conception church permission to stay open through June 30, 2010.

The announcement was made at the Sunday morning mass and further extensions hinge on church membership.

Right now, the funeral to baptism ratio of the church is 4:1.

Church officials will meet with the diocese to learn the detailed goals that need to be met in order for the church to stay open before crafting a gameplan.

In the meantime, church leaders say they will continue to move forward with requests to re-zone their church and have it labeled as a historical site. Those moves would block the diocese from selling the property as a business.
