Swastika and 'Obama' Carved into Golf Course

A hate message appears at a golf course near Boston as President Barack Obama confirms plans to visit the city at the end of the month.

The message is carved into the green near the eighteenth hole at Lakeville Country Club. It reads the "I" swastika "Obama." Authorities said it was dug sometime Sunday night or early Monday morning. Lakeville Country Club is about 40 miles south of Boston.

In less than two weeks, President Obama is expected to attend a fundraiser for Gov. Deval Patrick in Massachusetts.

Country club officials are trying to figure out how to cover up the vandalism.

"So insulting to our human race and shouldn't be part of our doings by anybody. I just can't understand it," said Gerry Mosa, course owner.

From Beacon Hill to the Berkshires, Bay State residents expressed shock at the display of hate.

"I am just so amazed that we still have this much hatred. I know with a tight economy, people look for scapegoats, but we have to keep our eyes and ears open. We can't assume its gone," Margaret Lobenstine of Belchertown said.

Local police, the Secret Service and the FBI are investigating.

Except that isn't a Nazi swastika. It would be reversed. Its a Buddhist symbol in that form.
