A Monson man is back in court for shooting his neighbor's dogs back in June 2008. One of the dogs died; the other was seriously injured.

The dogs' owner said anyone who would viciously shoot two dogs should be behind bars.

Quinton Markham, 26, sat in Palmer District Court Wednesday morning. He was on trial for shooting Jerry and Garcia. Jerry bled to death after being fired at several times with a shot gun. Garcia spent 20 days at Tufts Veterinary Hospital and underwent several surgeries. The dogs' owner, Mike Facchini, said those surgeries cost $15,000.

The bullet that hit Garcia went straight through his neck. Facchini made the frantic 911 phone call.

"Yeah Hi. My neighbor just shot my two dogs. One is bleeding really really bad," he said.

Defendant Markham told a different story in court on Wednesday. He said the dogs showed up on his porch acting aggressive and that is why he shot them. Witnesses said he was terrified.

Not only did Facchini call 911, but so did Markham.

"Hi this is Quinton Markham at 16 Blanchard Road. I just had two rottweilers attack me from my back deck, and I shot one of them. The other took off up the hill," Markham said in the 911 recording.

"You shot one of them with what?" The dispatch officer said.

"A Shotgun. One of the dogs is definitely dead in the back yard," Markham responded.

Monson Police Officer Scott Lawrence responded to the call and read Markham's written statement in court.

"I pulled my dog inside. I slammed the door. I ran to the closet and grabbed my shot gun. I fired one shot up and the two dogs turned. I shot one dog twice and I shot at the other dog as it was running away," Officer Scott Lawrence read in court.

Facchini claims Markham was not shooting to scare the dogs but instead was shooting to kill.

"This wasn't a naive 26-year-old kid not knowing what he was doing. What he did was vicious and mean. He's the animal and he should be in prison," Facchini said.

The trial will continue in Palmer District Court on Thursday. More witnesses are expected to take the stand this week.

I have looked into the facts unlike the author of this article who has a clearly one sided approach and doesn't even know the correct name of the defendant. CLINTON is a dog lover with no criminal history whatsoever.

If you aren't smart enough to look at all the facts you have access to,you really have no business commenting on the case. I have spent substantial time around both dogs (Jerry and Garcia), and they're not trained to be vicious. However, dogs do have certain natural instincts and behaviors. It's quite apparent that Markham is an ignorant redneck and a liar; his accounting of what happened varied at times. The dogs were running away when he decided to try to kill them. So unnecessary.

These dogs were new to the neighborhood which has a leash law. These dogs had a history of violence where Mr. Markham does not.

Although I don't agree at all with what that man did,(I don't believe he was attacked or scared) it was very irresponsible of the owner of 2 large dogs especially Rottweilers to let them run loose in the neighborhood (friendly or not).

Just read about a cop who shot a dog and was not on the cops property. Need more info on this case.

Re; above comment, There maybe another theory that the dogs did not attack him, but he just shot them because the were on his property. I think that that may be the real story.

Once the man was in his house, he was safe from the dogs. When he then went for his gun, he was no longer acting in self defence and commited a crime in vengence. He should go tojail.
