A person was killed by an train in Leverett at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

He's the third person to be struck by the Amtrak Vermonter in a three mile stretch of track in less than two years.

The train was full of passengers on its way toward Springfield when it hit the pedestrian who police say may have been trespassing at the the time of the accident.

State police will continue to investigate what the man was doing so close to the train, and how the accident happened.

"We are waiting for the scene to be documented and mapped through a GPS type survey equipment, at which point we will looks toward finding an identification," Lt. John Murphy said.

This set of train tracks has claimed more than just one victim. Back in December 2008, a man was killed by a train running along the same route. Witnesses say the victim wasn't walking on the tracks, just around them. It is something that sounds eerily familiar to the latest tragedy on the tracks.

"You don't see a lot people walk over the tracks. Most people are in cars or bikes," One witness said.

In September 2008, a woman driving her minivan was slammed by a train, taking out a control board. She survived, as did a girl who barley dodged death just over two months ago, tempting fate for thrills. The Amherst teenager was caught on tape playing chicken with the very train that killed two people.

Amtrak charged the girl with obstruction of a passing train, obstruction of tracks, and disorderly conduct. She will appear in court on Sept. 29.
