If you build it, they will come, even with some rain, some wind and quite possibly some lightning. Thankfully, this was wiffleball, so no metal bats.

The weekend long tournament being played at a miniature Fenway Park in Westfield has dual causes. It's a fundraiser for the Community Christian School and also a benefit to honor fallen members of the United States Military and their families.

Cpl. Jeremy Paul Bouffard of Middlefield was killed in the line of duty along with 13 other soldiers on Aug. 22, 2007, while fighting in Iraq.
His family, including his three-year-old son Caleb was there for opening day. Caleb even threw out the first pitch.

"I think it’s a real honor. It's an honor for Jeremy to be remembered. He would get a kick out of this, he really would," Steven Bouffard, father of Jeremy Bouffard.

For the Bouffards and other military families, the support from the local community helps them stay strong, for those who have been lost on the battlefield, and those still fighting.

Meara Kelly's father just came back from Afghanistan.

"I'm so grateful for what they are doing for military families, this mini Fenway is just amazing," Kelly said.

The scaled-back replica of Boston's Fenway Park has just about everything except Big Papi in the dugout. It was built in the backyard of Chris and Jen Dolan's home as a fundraising tool. Chris Dolan is chair of the board for Community Christian School.

For the best friend of fallen soldier Paul Bouffard, it's not just be a wiffleball field, it’s also a major league event for those who lay down their lives in the name of freedom.

“Honestly it’s a really good feeling because you know about how many people do care about men and women that serve this country. They are out here in support in the rain,” Jeremiah Brady said.

The wiffleball tournament continues all weekend. Donations will accepted for those two causes including the Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy fund.

Ballpark food will be served all weekend.

I am happy that you covered this event. I was one of the fellow platoon mates with Jeremy Bouffard and was there in Iraq with him when he and the other passed. We all miss him very much and am glad that I was able to provide the event with my Tribue "Never Forget the Fallen" T-Shirts. Thanks again.
