Fire Consumes Northampton Home

Fire Consumes Northampton Home

By Anne Ebeling

It was just after 3:30 Friday morning when three people sleeping in one Hawley Street house awoke to a blaze that eventually consumed their home and everything inside. The three alarm fire took firefighters two and a half hours to control.

"The crews had to work hard to get in there, really ripped everything apart and opened everything up to make sure that they got all the confined fire, the hidden fire in there," said Deputy Chief Duane Nichols of the Northampton Fire Department.

Firefighters ripped the house apart even more throughout the day as fire investigators remained on the scene, looking for clues as to what started this devastating fire.

"It's still under investigation right now. We're starting to rule out possible causes with that. What it looks like right now is that is was an outside fire, on the porch and it extended into the structure," Nichols said. The building was owned by a good friend of Lisa Hahn's.

"It's a very good friend of mine's house, a rental property. I spent a lot of time there when it was her house and it's just very sad to see," Hahn said. While the fire claimed the home, it's contents and the life of a cat, no human life was lost.
