An Athol man is in serious condition after crashing his motorcycle Monday afternoon on Route 202 in New Salem.

54-year-old James Milligan was taken by life flight to U-Mass Memorial Medical Center.

Police say he lost control of his motorcycle when coming out of a scenic overlook parking lot. He hit the guardrail and tumbled over the embankment falling 15 feet.

Police say he was wearing a helmet.
